The first choreographer I will be discussing is Jerome Robbins, who was one of Broadway’s and Hollywood’s greatest choreographers, as he took the traditional modern dance and made it his own with incorporating ballet with modern. One of his most famous works include: ‘West Side Story’ which was a musical conceived, directed and choreographed by Robbins, inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. (Nycballet.com, n.d.) Robbins choreography and style enabled to promote dance in musical theatre and helped entertain the audiences when watching. He was able to create something no one had ever seen before as he brought an authentic American style and was able to make it his own, his choreography and the ballets displayed a wide variety of styles especially dramatic content in his Broadway dances.
